Remembering Roy

Roy Yelton passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 after battling leukemia since 2000. He was 58. Roy leaves a lasting legacy in all the lives he touched through Yelton Fine Jewelers, the company he founded in 1988, and in the many other aspects of his life.

Roy was a businessman. After joining the Marines and the National Guard, being a Butler County Sheriff and a union leader at Champion Paper, Roy became interested in jewelry, selling from the trunk of his car and later at a flea market before opening his own store.

But Roy was much, much more than an intrepid entrepreneur.

Roy was an ordained minister. In 2004, he became ordained so that he could marry couples in the store, if they could not afford a wedding.

Roy was a family man. He was married to JoAnn for 38 years, and had a son Mark and daughter-in-law Tina. He had two grandsons.

Roy was a kind heart. Members of the community — neighbors, friends, customers — all agreed that Roy always had a smile and a kind word. He had a charisma that allowed him to help you when you were down in spirit. He treated everyone like a friend.

Roy was a giving soul. He donated to charitable events and to the people in his life. He was known as someone who would take the money out of his wallet to help someone. He grandly supported many organizations, including local schools, churches and other community foundations, over his life. Among his favorite charities were:

Leukemia and Lymphoma Patient Services of Cincinnati

JTHF Foundation

One Way Farm

Roy is missed deeply by his family and the community that he touched. The family continues the legacy of giving with charitable donations throughout the region.

They also ask for help in supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Patient Services in Cincinnati. If you can afford it, please make a donation.
